Course Summary
"Pathways 2.0: A Journey to Excellence through Literacy" is the new NAD Language Arts curriculum for Grades 1-8. This free online training course explores Pathways 2.0 components and introduces teachers to the new and revised features of this curriculum.
This integrated language arts program includes: Reading, Writing, Phonics, Spelling, Word Study, Comprehension and Study Skills, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Handwriting. Pathways 2.0 incorporates research-based skills and strategies together with appropriately complex text to engage students and facilitate learning. Discover the new Anchor Texts, Daily Lesson Guides and learn how to implement this program in both single and multi-grades. Explore this faith-based program, centered on the Adventist worldview and enriched with guiding Bible texts, key concepts, themes, essential questions and big ideas.
After completing this training course, you will earn 0.6 CEUs and a certificate of completion in your Adventist Learning Community e-portfolio.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- reflect on the Adventist Worldview and how it is incorporated into the Pathways 2.0 curriculum.
- understand the curricular foundations of Pathways 2.0.
- discover the significant differences between the previous Pathways curriculum and Pathways 2.0.
- understand how to use the Elementary Language Arts standards to inform and plan instruction in Pathways 2.0.
- identify the purpose and goals of the three instructional blocks in Pathways 2.0: Word Study, Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop.
- learn and apply effective teaching strategies that support the development of phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, vocabulary and word study.
- learn and apply effective teaching strategies that support the development of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
- examine the components and setup of the Daily Lesson Guides.
- understand how Pathways 2.0's design can facilitate implementation in a multigrade.
- create a classroom context and daily teaching routines that support students' literacy development.
- implement techniques for assessing students’ learning and use the information to inform instructional decisions.
- reflect on your own instruction as a means for self-improvement and self-understanding.
- utilize the NAD Pathways website as a resource for teaching and working with students.
- select appropriate Language Arts resources to use in your classroom.
