Welcome to the Pathfinder Basic Staff Training Course!

Course Summary

The purpose of this course is to provide online training for all new Pathfinder staff and those thinking of working with Pathfinders. This certification is intended to provide basic information about the purpose, structure and ministry of Pathfinders to individuals who are just starting out in Pathfinder ministry and have little or no prior experience with the program. It is highly recommended that this certification is earned before they begin their participation in Pathfinder ministry, although not required.

What will I learn ?

This online course is a Pathfinder Certification course.  It is intended to be a self-study course for equipping the local Pathfinder club staff in the fundamental aspects of Pathfinder club ministry. Download the Course Outline.

What do I need to know ?

This course is divided into eight learning modules with learning activities and a quiz for each model.  The primary source material for this course is taken from the North American Division (NAD) Pathfinder Staff Manual, 2007 edition.  Additional source material is available through AdventSource and Adventist Risk Management.  This course fulfills the Master Guide prerequisite requirement for Basic Staff Training as outline in the NAD Master Guide course. It is recommended that each participant have a copy of the most current version of the Pathfinder Staff Manual.

 

After completing this course for 1.0 continuing education credit, you may re-enroll in the course for the purposes of resource retrieval, but not earn any additional CEUs.

Course Learning Outcomes

The participant will learn the fundamental principles and practices necessary to effectively work together with the staff of their club and make their Pathfinder Club Ministry successful.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Understand and fundamental principles and practices of Pathfinder ministry
  2. Assist your Pathfinder club staff in planning and carrying out Pathfinder ministry in your church
  3. Help church members understand Pathfinder ministry and promote it throughout your church.

Instructor

Tracy Wood serves as Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.  Pastor Tracy has participated with Pathfinder leaders from around the North American Division in the development, piloting, and implementation of Pathfinder training certifications and resources.

What do I need to purchase?

It is not required that the participant purchase any books for this course although it is highly recommended that they read through the NAD Pathfinder Staff Manual to get a full and complete understanding of all the components of operating a successful Pathfinder ministry

Participants need to build their BST Staff Portfolio.  It is simple and inexpensive to put together.

Volunteer Screening Approval:

All adults working with minors in the Seventh-day Adventist Church are required to participate in a minor safety training which includes a volunteer background screening and signing of the Volunteer Code of Conduct.  If you are already approved, then great!  If not, then you need to get approved.  Contact your pastor or your conference youth department to determine which minor safety training and volunteer background screening your conference is using.  If it is Verified Volunteers then go to the link below, create your volunteer account, take the child safety course, and consent to a background check.

Required Field Work:

The online training activities of each module are intended to provide and develop personal staff resources for inclusion in a portfolio created by each participant.  You, as a participant of this online training course, are required to create a Portfolio that contains the handouts, the learning activities, and your personal notes from all the modules.

 

Directions:

How to receive a certificate of completion for this course. Once you have completed all the learning activities and quizzes at the end of each module you may print your completion certificate to include in your Basic Staff Training Portfolio.

 

Portfolio Review:

When you complete all eight modules you will receive a course completion certificate.  Then you will need to sit with your area coordinator, club director, or a Master Guide mentor for a Basic Staff Training course Evaluation Review.  You will show them your Portfolio which contains all your notes and the learning activities you have completed.  They will sign your Basic Staff Training Certification Check List and this will complete you Basic Staff Training Certification.
