Welcome to the Hermeneutics Course!

Course Summary

Join Dr. Davidson, Dr. Peckham, Dr. Moskala and Ed Zinke as they explore biblical hermeneutics.

Hermeneutics refers to the theory of interpretation and its methods. It resides at the foundation of Christian faith and life, because it determines the bases of our faith and how we approach Scripture. Should we approach the Bible with trust or distrust? What is the role of reason in matters of faith? Questions about whether the Bible is the word of God or if it can be trusted stand at the foundation for every other belief. Is scientific knowledge against religion? What principles should guide me when I interpret the scriptures? How was the Bible organized and put together? What is a worldview and how it affects my understanding of Scripture? These and other questions are unpacked in the interviews.

What Do I Need To Know ?

The Adventist Theological Academy is an international, professional, nonprofit organization established as a theological resource for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Some of their values include: Exploring Scripture in order to better understand it; and promoting sound biblical scholarship among Seventh-day Adventist scholars, theologians, teachers, pastors, and Bible students.

The Society affirms the Bible and the Bible alone as the foundation of its scholarship and activities.  As students of God’s Word they accept that all Scripture is inspired and that God reveals Himself to those who come to it with humble hearts. They recognize that our view of God’s Word and the centrality of the Gospel in its message are critical to the theological task before us.

The Society accepts the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as its theological position and adheres to the Church’s voted “Methods of Bible Study” as its hermeneutical position.
